A new study put out by the University of Maryland indicates that the MLS degree has some curriculum changes that are needed, changes that will could affect every Library and Information Science program in the U.S. You can read the study here, but the gist is that students in MLS programs need to be people-oriented collaborators, a sharp turn away from the old librarian trope of quiet, backroom book organizer who constantly reminds her patrons to SHHHHHHH.
